Minister Ricardo Patiño was awarded the Gold prize Illescas

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration Ricardo Patiño received on Wednesday the “Gold Illescas” award giving by the Federation of organizations and Black Groups in Pichincha (FOGNEP), in recognition to the contributions in benefits of the afro-descendant peoples.
The event was held in the installations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration with the purpose of recognizing the work done for the institutions and personalities in favor of the afro-Ecuadorian peoples.
Minister Ricardo Patiño received the “Gold Illescas” in the political category. In his intervention, he claimed to be honored “To have the bust of Illescas is a very big commitment” he said.
“The role that we fulfill in the Chancery is to accomplish with the Citizen´s Revolution commitment, the true interculturality. It gives me much pleasure to have been one of the responsible for the fulfillment of this commitment, which is also a historical repair of the tremendous damage that this society made to their children, to those who originally built the Ecuadorian nationality and also Latin American nationality” he said.
The Ecuadorian Diplomatic Corps account with 11 members corresponding to the Afro-Ecuadorian population in condition of Third Secretaries and fifteen more will join in the next few days. Informed the Minister.
The first Sunday of October 1997 was declared as the National Day of the Afro-Ecuadorian Peoples and Alonso de Illescas was also declared National Hero. From 2007, the afro-descendant peoples commemorate during the month of October their participation in the country´s development.
Ana Maldonado, President of the FOGNEP informed that this price has been giving since 2007 in a uninterrupted manner, being this the first time that a State Minister receives the award. In addition, 14 other people received the award for the categories of culture, childhood and adolescence, sports, organization, juvenility, education, investigation, communitarian development, women, academia, interculturalism, literature and inclusion.
